1823-1923
1823: The history of Grigiškės Paper Mill starts. The Kučkuriškės Paper Manufactory was later affiliated with this recently founded Plant.
1834: Juozapas Opicas, the mayor of Vilnius City, founded a paper workshop by Riešė stream, in a place called Popierinė ("The Paper One") later known as Naujieji Verkiai.
1855: Verkiai Paper Mill was the most modern Lithuanian paper factory and the largest paper producing enterprise in the Western Russia. Naujieji Verkiai Paper Mill is the oldest Lithuanian paper company still running with no changes in production profile. Now it is affiliated with Grigiškės AB.
1923: Grigas Kurecas, a gifted mechanician, hydraulic engineer, and a businessman, has started the construction of Grigiškės Paper Mill at the confluence of Neris and Vokė rivers. A small channel and a dam across Vokė River ensured 12 m water drop necessary for the turbines. Most of the equipment was devised by G. Kurecas himself and manufactured either locally or by companies in Vilnius.
1923-1945
1925: The Paper Mill started to run.
1936: The Mill production capacities and product range increased. Production of white cardboard, cardboard boxes, and rolling paper started. In the pre-war period, the Mill employed 300 people.
12-07-1944: The Mill was destroyed and burned down by a retreating German army. Its rebuilding took over one year.
25-09-1945: The Mill resumed the production.
1945-1973
1946: Grigiškės Paper Mill has produced 1,100 tons of paper. Production of cellulose wadding started while production of rolling paper increased. The Mill employed 136 people.
1951-1954: cardboard producing equipment was upgraded, which increased daily cardboard production to 54 tons.
1954: A new, high-performance wood processing shop was build. It supplied wood not only to Grigiškės but other enterprises as well. A consumer goods shop was built where notebooks, photo albums, writing paper, and wallpaper was produced.
1964: A hardboard shop was built with the production capacity to 5.5 million m2 per annum. Wood unsuitable for paper industry was used in hardboard production. It was the only such workshop in the entire Baltic Region.
1966: A waste paper and cellulose recycling workshop was built.
1973: A hardboard refinement workshop was launched where boards were primed, polished and decorated by imitation of oak, ash, walnut and other wood.
1975: The annual board production capacity reached 10 million m2.
1973-1993
1980-1985: Grigiškės Paper Mill was the largest cellulose and paper manufacturer in Lithuania. It employed almost 3,000 people. The Grigiškės company was also running the Pabradė and Naujieji Verkiai factories.
1991: Grigiškės stock company was established.
1993-2003
1996: New, modern lines for crepe processing, toilet paper and paper towel packaging were introduced. The company launched a new production group Grite offering high quality hygiene paper (toilet paper, paper towels and tissue paper).
1998: Products by Grite won medals and diplomas at Lithuanian Product of the Year competition.
1999: Grigiškės AB was the first Lithuanian paper company to receive EN ISO 9001 quality system certification, which ensured high quality of products.
2001: The management system of environment protection was introduced as ISO 14001 compliant.
2002: A modern hardboard painting line launched.
2003-Present
October 2003: Grigiškės AB incorporated Naujieji Verkiai AB.
2003: Baltwood UAB domiciled in Grigiškės was founded for the purpose of establishment of a new sawmill. Baltwood UAB produces furniture wood, container sheets, pallets and granules.
2005: Production development including new lines for production of tissue paper and sheet paper towels as well as a new, modern wood cutting line.
2006: An Italian-made away-from-home paper production line started, which significantly increased the production of holder goods. The company also launched the operation of a modern German-made line for hardboard sizing.
Beginning of 2007: Hardboard sizing machine software updated. Two old hardboard sizing machines were replaced by new Anthon machines thus increasing hardboard sizing capacity more than twofold.
May 2007: A new automatic package production line was installed thus ensuring a significant increase of production volumes and quality.
